Newspaper evidence indicates that rugby football was first played in Neath in 1864 and the first recorded match report appeared in 1872 which makes Neath RFC the oldest senior club in Welsh rugby. Neath RFC has played a vital role in the development and history of Wales’ national sport and celebrated its centenary in 1971/72 by winning the inaugural Welsh Cup. In the 2021/22 season, the Welsh All Blacks will celebrate its 150th anniversary – a remarkable milestone which showcases both the club’s amazing longevity and its importance to the town. Neath RFC has been the beating heart of the community for one-and-a-half centuries – a momentous achievement which the club rightly plan to mark with a series of events in the next 12 months. More news on those events will follow in the very near future, but the 150th year celebrations have already kicked-off with the launch of a special Neath online merchandise store. The store will allow Neath supporters to purchase a series of products marking the club’s milestone year. Chief among them is the 150th year premium Neath jersey. Only 150 of the shirts will be produced with each one individually numbered for the purchaser. The anniversary clothing range includes hoodies and polo shirts and non-clothing items feature a commemorative plaque, a beer stein, a mug and keyring.
